The Town of Palau-solità i Plegamans

Inhabited since prehistoric times, the place is mentioned in documents dating from a thousand years ago, in the 10th century.

There are Palaeolithic and Neolithic archaeological remains, which, together with La Pedra Llarga megalith confirm the ancient history of this area.

It seems that it was here, at the chapel of Santa Magdalena, that the first Command of the Templar Order was founded in Catalonia in the 12th century.

Today, it welcomes the plurality and vitality of a town that is rich in cultural, sporting and festive displays.

Located 25 km from Barcelona, at 140 metres altitude in the River Caldes basin, in the Vallès Occidental region, between Sabadell and Granollers, it is home to more than ten thousand inhabitants and covers an area of 15 square kilometres.

The land, which is mainly agricultural and forests, has a high level of first-quality industrialisation confined within the modern industrial estates.

L'Hostal del Fum Park

It is an enclosed area of 30 ha with local rural plant life made up of pine trees, holm oaks, poplars and riparian trees, amongst which a great variety of plants and flowers grow, such as thyme, basil, rosemary and other aromatic species, depending on the time of year.

The areas with trees alternate with grassy meadows which are crossed by asphalted paths along which you can ride bicycles, practice sport or simply have a picnic, between pools of clear water, linked together by a stream, which offer beautiful views, peace and quiet and pure fresh air.

The entrance to the park is on "Camí Reial", an ancient mediaeval path, legacy of the ancient Roman road which, following the left bank of the River Caldes, linked the Via Augusta - from Rome to Tarraco - with Caldae (Caldes de Montbui).

The Counts of Barcelona and the Kings of the Crown of Aragon used this path on their journeys to the Monastery of Sant Miquel del Fai.

Years later, (1820) parallel to the path, and separated from it by about a hundred metres to the east, the current C-59 road was built, on which the tracks of the old - no longer existing - Mollet-Caldes railway which went through Palau-solità i Plegamans (1880/1932 - 1936/39) were later laid.

Our Association bears the name "TREN DE PALAU", that of the small train currently running, and in memoriam of its older brother, long since gone.
